1. Today is my mother's birthday, and we had a lovely celebration with family, homemade pizza, and chocolate cake. It was small, but I thought it was a fun time for everyone, and I was glad that we were all happy and healthy (except for my boyfriend, who sadly was suffering through a bad headache at the time) enough to enjoy the time together. I know this won't last forever, so I am happy that for now we are healthy and together and can enjoy these celebrations.
2. It's been a good sports weekend. After an embarrassing string of losses at Minnesota, the Royals finally pulled out some good work to win 2 of their 3 games against the Astros. But more important than the wins, they're starting to show some payoffs for all their hard work. There is still a lot of work to do, but we've seen homers from Moustakas, Salvy, and Hosmer, and twice, in two consecutive games, Alex Gordon doubled to score two runs. Good pitching, amazing fielding (Lorenzo Cain caught a ball against the back wall that people are already saying might be the catch of the season), and amazing hitting. And tonight, Sporting KC is playing against the Colorado Rapids, and at the moment they're up 2-0. Again, it's not about the score (although that is a happy thing), it's about seeing them play as a team, working together making plays that count. I love Kansas City sports!
3. I am struggling with money these days. Why does that make me happy? Because it's not about knowing that I have enough money to buy food or gas or pay my rent. And I have been there. Today's struggles are about wanting to pay down my debt, knowing that I need to get a new car at some point, worrying I don't have enough set aside for retirement. I'd much rather have these struggles. Instead of worrying about not having enough to eat or not knowing where I'll be living next month, I can spend my time wondering if I should look for freelancing work or consider looking for a better paying job in the next year or two. I am safe. I have money. I am happy. What more could I ask for?
