1. Cinnamon rolls. I just read a couple of books last week where people were eating cinnamon rolls, and it just made me remember what a perfect food they are. I did finally get some at the grocery store today, and those are good but not great, but eventually we’ll get back to going out to brunch every couple of weekends, and we’ll go to Rye, and we’ll get the real thing.
2. We have made it through the worst of this work round. It was rough, made more so because a new proofreader started the busiest week, so we had to train someone new on top of everything else. The reason there’s a new proofreader? Because my coworker, who has been with us since like a week before the country shut down due to Covid, is leaving. She is having twin girls, and she’s going to stay at home and raise kids. They already have 3 boys, around middle school age (one won’t hit middle school until fall, but it’s close enough), and now they’ll have 2 baby girls. It has been such a joy to work with her, and I will miss her badly. But if there is a good reasons to leave a job, this is it. I will savor every day I still get to work with her, and I will celebrate her expanded family. Thank you for these past 2 years, Monica! I wish you and your family good health and lots of love as the years go by!
3. We went out into the real world again last weekend, to a live show with lots of other people in the building. There were some awkwardnesses about the venue and the parking, but it’s the first show we went to in years. It was Alton Brown’s Beyond the Eats, and we had so much fun! He was funny and smart and mocked people who were willing to come onstage with him, and if you’re a food nerd, I highly recommend it. His wife was with him, and she was adorable and funny. And we just had a great time. I so wish that he’d brought the puppets with him (as I said that night, it was the yeast he could do) (#goodeatsjoke), but I have no other complaints about the show. And I will never think of s’mores quite the same way again.
