1. I was going through a pile of junk mail, and while I probably should have thrown it all out, there were a handful of catalogs that I held onto. I love catalogs. There is something about curling up on the sofa with a pile of yarn catalogs, or baking supply catalogs, or even a good Crate and Barrel one that helps me remember the life I’m aiming for, the one that’s less cluttered and more streamlined. The one where the furniture matches (although it all has cat hair on it—that counts as matching, right?). The one where things seem to be on purpose, with curtains and wall hangings and books neatly in shelves not just hanging around on all the tables waiting for me to pick them. Or maybe I’m just not that person, and this ragtag life (where I’m very happy, please don’t misunderstand that!) is just where I belong. Still, I can look through my catalogs and think about making some small changes that will help me feel more organized. Or, I can look through them and see even more yarn I could buy, even more books I could add to the piles, even more pans to bake the bread that I may not really get a chance to bake until retirement. Either way, I still like catalogs, and at some point I will make some time to thumb through that pile and see possibilities.

2. We are in production at work, which means I spend 8+ hours a day intensely staring at a computer screen, proofing pages and pages and pages of our catalogs (is it a coincidence that I work on catalogs? probably not . . . ). So I am leaning pretty hard on the Systane, the over-the-counter luxury eye drops. They are pricy, but they are good. And I would also like to mention Zatidor, the allergy drops from the same company. They are, quite literally, such a relief!

3. Rain. It’s definitely spring, and it’s definitely raining. Now, I don’t want the rains that cause flooding in the streets or in our basement. But right now, as I look out the back door, it’s gray out. There is a cover of clouds as far as the eye can see, and everything out there is wet. Is it raining now? Was it just raining and stopped briefly? I can’t tell from here. If it did stop, it could start up again at any time. It’s just one of those days, one of those weekends, one of those weeks. But I like it. Because of all this rain, soon everything will be a million lovely shades of green. And I love to look outside when it’s raining, or even just rainy, and let my mind drift a bit. Gray is good for relaxing. Our cat, DonDon, likes to look out the window too, but he gets more excited about the squirrels and chipmunks and birds. Clearly, he is on squirrel watch here. Which is another thing that is making me happy this week.
