1. Buying yourself Christmas presents. I bought myself a kitchen gadget that I can’t really talk about yet (sorry) because I’m going to use it to make Christmas presents. But it means that I am baking today, which brings us to the second thing making me happy this week . . .

2. Homemade chocolate chip cookies. Because is there anything better than that?

3. My cousin Mary Sigg passed away this week. She was fighting breast cancer for the second time. She was strong and loving, a survivor, a hero, a mother, a grandmother, a daughter, a niece, a cousin, and a friend. She will be missed. This photo was taken years ago, when we used to meet some of our relatives who live in western Kansas at an epic chicken restaurant in between. The drive took us all several hours, but it was worth it, both to spend time with family we didn’t get to see much and for the delicious fried chicken dinner, served family style. The Brookville Hotel is closed now, and a couple of these family members are no longer with us, but I am happy that their pain is gone. With Thanksgiving this week, it is poignant that we have lost such a lovely member of our family, but I can still be grateful for the time I’ve had with her, with all my family. They are far from perfect, but they are mine, and I am grateful for my family, both those who are still with this and those who are not. You have helped make me what I am, for better or worse, and you will always be a part of me. RIP Sissy. You will be missed this week and always.
