1. There were 3 things I wanted to do on my week off. I wanted to read a lot, clean out the basement, and rest and relax. I didn’t read any extra books. I only got about 1/3 of the basement cleaned out. And I did get some rest and relaxation, although I’ve also had some trouble sleeping lately. Honestly, I have been going without a week off through years of work drama, family drama, political drama, and pandemic drama, so 5 days off (9 if you count the weekend bookends) could only do so much for me. But I had a lovely time getting to stay home and relax, and I did get to make a dent in the chaos in the basement and the built up stress in my system.
2. I am very much looking forward to dinner tonight. There were some good looking steaks on sale at the store a couple of weeks ago. They’ve spent a week in the freezer before coming down to defrost. They’ve been salted and aging in the fridge since Wednesday. I’ve already got the baked potatoes in the oven, roasting for a couple of hours with some good olive oil, salt, and pepper. It’s simple. It’s so delicious. It’s a perfect Sunday night dinner.
3. I’m a little late this year, but I have once again made our family calendars featuring our favorite cat, DonDon. I order the calendars through Vistaprint, and they do a wonderful job. I usually also get notebooks or mouse pads or (this year) bookmarks as well, and they do a beautiful job with the printing. The photography could use some tweaking, but I think I’m getting better. I can put this up at work and have a yearlong reminder of what’s waiting at home for me. I highly recommend it for lifting your spirits on a bad day. Make yourselves calendars or notepads or mouse pads or whatever makes you happy. Celebrate your family, your pets, whatever makes you happy. These will be going in the mail later this week! (I would say “tomorrow,” but there is talk of ice and snow, so it may be a few days.)
