1. Football. Just finished watching the Chiefs v. the Browns. To be honest, through the second half of the game, I thought I’d be saying how much we appreciated all the hard work of the Chiefs this year, especially after seeing what the Browns did to the Steelers last weekend. But the Chiefs pulled it out, despite injuries and missed calls (one that was totally against us). It’s been another amazing season. Until the last few years, I didn’t much care about professional football, and with the Chiefs sucking year after year, it didn’t much matter. But then Andy Reid happened, and then the magic of Patrick Mahomes. And now I’m sucked in too. There is something special about the team the way it is now, about the chemistry, that just works. So good job, Chiefs, pulling that one out, and best of luck next week!

2. I am working on cleaning out my basement this week. For the past several years, I’ve been facing professional and family challenges that have overwhelmed me. So when I had too much stuff around and didn’t know what to do, I just put it in the basement. Now it’s a mishmash of boxes and junk mail, too many yarn purchases and random empty gift bags, cat toys that DonDon rejected and dead computer monitors. I’m feeling stronger and I have vacation days, so it’s time for me to face all that stuff and all those feelings I stuffed down and clear some space. I both look forward to it and want to hide from it. It won’t be easy to do, but I do think it will be worth it. And I think I really need to do it. I need to lighten up, in so many ways. This will help. This is what I need.

3. After many crazy years at work, I finally got to the point where I had vacation days saved up that I didn’t need for any specific emergencies or appointments, so this week I am taking an entire week off. I’m not going anywhere, because it’s that kind of year, but I get to stay home all week and sleep in (some—I still have to feed the cat), get some extra reading done, watch some tasty things from the dvr, and clean out the basement. Not the same level of vacation as a week in Europe, but far cheaper, and I get to hang out with this guy every day. I am very much looking forward to the next week!
