1. Joe Kenda. When there’s not much on tv and not much going on elsewhere, we can put Homicide Hunter on, and you can know that Joe Kenda will always get his man. The young Kenda in the reenactments is consistently hard-working and ethical, and the older Kenda who narrates is smart, speaks from his entire life’s experience, and has no fear of leaning on snark to get his point across. Kenda rocks! (And for book people reading this, he has another book coming out later this spring, Killer Triggers, out March 9.
2. A new season of Hell’s Kitchen. Always a favorite! (I may be a little late posting about this—it’s been on several weeks already. I picked my favorite that first night, and I as still on #TeamDeclan! Finish strong, my Irish friend!)
3. Sunday afternoon cooking. I love those Sunday dishes, where you can just put a bunch of yummy things into a big pan and let it cook for hours. I am a big lover of short ribs and beef stews. But today it’s my favorite chicken and noodles. It freezes beautifully, it picks you up on a day when you’re feeling rundown, and it goes with sandwiches or works as an entrée all its own. And it just feels so virtuous to start with a big pot of water and throw in veggies and chicken and seasonings and whatever you want, and after a few hours you have a really flavorful broth to work with, and you can get rid of all the things you don’t want and add some noodles. Perfection!
