1. For the second week in a row, we have found our favorite name brand of toilet paper on store shelves. We never ran out of toilet paper (thank you so much, Sam’s Club!), but we did run out of our preferred Cottonelle. But now we are back in stock here and ready to . . . well, you know.
2. Our state stay-at-home order expires tonight, but our county extended theirs for another week. Depending on where you are in Kansas City, you are out from under the stay-at-home orders anywhere from tomorrow to the 15th. People have been getting antsy to get back out in the world, so for their sakes, I’m glad this is coming to an end. I’m also tired of the conspiracy theories about this all being a way for the government to control us. But anyway, what I’m most wanting to say is that I am very proud of how Kansas City has handled this pandemic. I think our local and state politicians shut things down quickly and with intelligence, so we are among the lucky. Overall, we have had it pretty mild. When I hear stories about some cities, about how many were sick or didn’t recover, then I know that we have been most fortunate. One of the many reasons I love this city!
3. Some of us went back to work last Monday, and it seemed okay. Our part of the office was probably about 50% staffed. I was a little worried about how the company would handle things, but I found out along the way what I could do to help me feel less anxious about everything. I feel empowered to do everything I can to keep this virus at arm’s length. Would I rather still be working at home? Absolutely! I felt so much safer here, where I had more control over what I get exposed to. But I’m being very careful, washing my hands often, using hand sanitizer when I need to, and keeping my distance. I’m not going to say that my anxiety about all this is gone, because there is still so much about this virus that we don’t know, and I don’t have any control over the choices that other people make. But I can do what I can do, and that helps.
