just finished: Oddball, by Sarah Anderson. It’s the next Sarah’s Scribbles book, and it’s lots of fun.
currently reading: I’m still reading The Holiday Swap, which is lots of fun. And I have another rom com, Just Haven’t Met You Yet, about a woman who works for a website, making short videos about happy couples and how they met. Laura’s single, but her parents have an adorable how-they-met story, so she decides to do a story on that, even though her mother died a couple of years ago and her father died when she was only 3. But she has their story, a pendant that is a reminder of the story, and sponsors paying for her trip to the Channel Islands, specifically the island of Jersey. There are cows, a suitcase mix-up, a McGuffin, and lots of funny situations. I am enjoying this one so much! It’s by Sophie Cousins, and it’s out Tuesday.
up next: It’s the year of ballet books. Earlier this year, it was Megan Abbott’s The Turnout. Out this week is Erin Kelly’s Watch Her Fall (I thought her He Said/She Said was phenomenal!). This one is about competitive ballerinas at their worst. And next month is The Ballerinas from Rachel Kapelke-Dale is about secrets between ballerina friends which cause problems when one comes back to choreograph a ballet and finds that the power dynamics have changed while she was away. And out next week, A New Way to Cake from author Anne Byrn, who brought us all those Cake Mix Doctor books for the last couple of decades. I remember my aunt falling in love with the first one when she got it, and she bought one for me too. I’m looking forward to diving in to her new book and she how’s she updated her ideas. Plus, it’s cake.
