book 'em, danno

Bookbinder Brooklyn Wainwright has a busy weekend. It's the weekend of the National Librarians Association conference, and she's agreed to give a bookbinding workshop and a speech on bookbinding as well as hosting a bookish tour around San Francisco for 20 raffle winners. Oh, and she's getting married, so she has that going on as well.

But she thinks she can handle it all. The workshop she's given many times before, and she's done the tour before too, although not with a rented bus and so many participants. And her fiance Derek Stone has the last-minute wedding preparations well in hand, so she can concentrate on the conference for as long as she needs to.

Surprises abound for Brooklyn during the weekend, from her mother and Derek's mother showing up on her 3-hour "Book Lovers' Tour of San Francisco" to her grad school roommate Heather showing up for the conference. Brooklyn hadn't seen or talked to her since grad school, where their other roommate Sara stole Heather's boyfriend and created a lot of bad feelings for the three library students. But Brooklyn and Heather are fine now, all this time later, and laugh and joke like old times.

And then Sara shows up. And (surprise!) she's brought her husband with her, the guy she stole from Heather back when they were in school.

Sadly, the weekend does not end well for one of the old friends. Now Brooklyn has to finish her duties at the conference, get ready for her wedding, and try to solve the murder of her former roommate that is almost certainly tied to the mystery of the forged book that has fallen into her hands. If anyone can do all that, it's Brooklyn, but the question is: will she make it to the church on time?

Buried in Books in the 12th in Kate Carlisle's Bibliophile Mystery series, and her relatable characters and easy-reading style make her books a great choice for mystery lovers as well as anyone who can appreciate a good book. The Bibliophile Mystery series is perfect for book lovers, offering a compelling story along with a charming lead character and a beautiful setting (although I'm a fan of Her Fixer-Upper Mystery series also!). If you haven't tried Kate Carlisle yet, this is a fun book to jump in with, and if you have read her books before, then you're probably already on your way to the bookstore to pick this one up too.

Galleys for Buried in Books were provided by Berkley Prime Crime through Penguin's First To Read program, with many thanks.
