cookie cutters, alphabet and numbers

I wanted to love these cookie cutters. I am a word nerd, so I thought these would be a lot of fun to play with. I wanted to use them to spell out messages or just to play with. I thought they would be small, so I could bake up a bunch of letters to play with, mix and match. They would be perfect for those who have an unusual spelling in their names.

Sadly, that is not the experience I got.

They are small and adorable. They are easy to clean, and they’re easy to hold on to as I was cutting into the dough. However, I had so much trouble getting the letters out of the cutters. I dipped them into flour first so the dough wouldn’t stick, and that helped, but they were still stuck in the cutters. I had to poke them with a toothpick from the top to come out, and then some of the letters, especially with the curves, did not come out well.

The cutters can be used with different things, and maybe that will make it easier to get the letters out, like fondant. And I would think that bakers who have more experience working with smaller cutters will fare better than I did (I usually just use larger cookie cutters, or made drop cookies). But I did struggle.
