microwave egg boiler
I don’t know why, but I hate boiling eggs. I like eating them, but for some reason, I never want to cook them. So I’ve been wondering about alternate ways to cook them. When I took this egg-shaped steamer (how cute is that?!) from the box, I didn’t have high expectations about it. It’s super-light, so I was skeptical if it could do a good job. But I gave it a try.
There aren’t a lot of directions for it, just some information on the box that is not written by a native English speaker, so it’s a little awkward. But it doesn’t take much to work this. Water goes in the bottom, to a line designated on the plastic. Then there is a metal dish that sits on that, that holds 4 eggs. The top goes on, giving the steamer that egg look. And then the whole things goes into the microwave.
The box has two sets of directions, for half-done and completely done for two different microwave sizes. I figured my microwave was smaller, and I wanted hard-boiled, so I chose the longest time there, 11 minutes. And I cooked the eggs.
The steamer was hot coming out of the microwave, and the eggs stayed hot for quite a while later. Finally, I moved them to a bowl and put them in the refrigerator so they would cool down. Later, I pulled one out to see what it was like inside. It was really easy to get the shells off, and when I cut the egg in half, it was cooked beautifully. There was that light green around the yolk that points to it being overcooked, but I think that was my fault for letting them sit in the steamer so long. I added a little salt, and ate that egg right up, and it was delicious. Just to make sure, I grabbed another egg and cracked it open too. Same on the inside, slightly overdone but delicious.
These are the easiest hard-boiled eggs I have ever made. This egg steamer works like a dream with so little effort. I was thrilled that it was so easy, and I will make hard-boiled eggs more often now that it’s so easy. The steamer can also be used to steam buns or dumplings, if you are talented enough to make your own of those. Since I am not, I will stick to the eggs.
