kitchen skimmer
I love fall. I want the crunchy leaves, the cooler temperatures, the pumpkins everywhere. And I want those winter foods. I want comforting casseroles, I want roasted turkey, and I want soup. Even better than soup is homemade soup. I’m a big fan of chicken, myself, with some quality noodles. But sometimes when I make the stock, there is a bunch of unwanted schmutz on top, and I have been trying to find a good skimmer to clear that right off. And this one is amazing.
For one thing, It’s big. The handle is long, so if you’re using a big stock pot for your soup (I love a big stockpot), then this can get all the way to the bottom of the pot to stir things up so the carrots don’t burn and attach themselves permanently to the bottom of the pot. (It’s always the carrots. Why?) It’s a strong, sturdy stainless steel, so it can stand up to whatever you’ve got in your pot. And the holes are just right for skimming. They’re the perfect size to catch all the schmutz and help make your soup taste just right. In the past, I’ve used several different spoons, ladles, and mesh strainers to try to get my soups just how I want them. With this one, I won’t need any other spoons or strainers. It can stir in a deep pot and strain the impurities off the top with ease.
