1. After finishing Newsradio, I have moved on to Perfect Strangers. I watched it religiously when I was in high school. I remembered the physical comedy (which is fantastic) and the warmth between Cousin Larry and Balki. But what I didn’t remember, and what I wasn’t prepared for now, is how much they talk early in the series about going for your dreams. Larry wanted to be a photojournalist, and Balki had the dream of coming to America and then he got his high school diploma and then he went to college, so there was a lot of encouragement and hope. I remember that hit me hard when I was in high school. And seeing that again has meant a lot to me. That was such a good show.
2. I made a pot roast today. I haven’t made one in years, so it was fun. I love a long braised dish, especially for a weekend of snow. And I have warming lunches for the work week, which will help, since it will still be cold and snowy all week.
3. This was a winter storm weekend. On Friday, the temperatures fell to single digits, with below zero wind chills. Then the snow came. We got 5 or 6 inches, most of which is still out there. I had taken Monday off to go with my mother to a doctor’s appointment, but she rescheduled. I’m still staying home though (I have time off I need to use up soon, so might as well). So we went grocery shopping on Thursday evening, and once I got home on Friday, we just stayed in, hibernating through the weekend. Okay, not hibernating exactly, but we have just stayed in, watching The Great British Bake-Off and soccer and football and cooking and eating and sleeping but mostly just staying out of the cold and snow, which has been amazing. I am so happy that this hit on the weekend, and on a weekend where I was taking an extra day off.
