1. Yesterday when there was nothing on that we wanted to watch, I caught most of It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Not all of it stands up to time, but there are so many amazing actors in this movie, and Spencer Tracy is phenomenal. I came to this movie late, but as a kid I was a really big fan of the movie Scavenger Hunt, which has a similar plot (a bunch of people in a desperate race for money), and while I haven’t seen that in years, catching Mad, Mad World brought me some of that same joy. Even though there were no ostriches.

2. This weekend we also started watching Peacemaker, and it is disturbing. If you’ve seen Suicide Squad 2, then you know the flavor of disturbing it is. But if you haven’t seen that, or you want more, you can start here by watching the (very disturbing) opening sequence. It’s not gory or anything, but the dancing is just . . . not right. I hope this does not haunt my dreams tonight.

3. The cicadas are back. I love hearing the chirping. It just feels like late summer (although I think it’s still early to call this late summer, but that’s what the sound reminds me of). It means that there are cooler days coming (and we really, really, really want those!) but there’s still time for those summer activities. Like buying really cheap school supplies and eating yet more ice cream. And while I say I enjoy listening to the cicadas, I don’t really like looking at them, so instead I’m posting this picture of the most amazing cat ever. Love that DonDon!
