1. It is summer, so it’s time: peach pie. I love peach pie during the summer, and while I’ve eaten a lot of peaches so far this summer, I had yet to get the pie. But it’s the Fourth of July, so it’s time for peach pie. I stopped by my favorite local pie shop yesterday, but they had sold out of pie before I got there and I only snagged cookies. (I would have preordered, but I didn’t know we’d be in that neighborhood until that morning). So I went with the second best—the Tippin’s peach pie at our local Hen House. Tippin’s was a restaurant around these parts back in the ‘90s, known for comfort foods and amazing pies. When the restaurants all closed, they kept a way to keep producing the pies everyone loves and sell them through local grocery stores. It’s not as fun as going to the restaurant, but it’s still delicious.

2. New season of Making It! Love this show. The kindness of the contestants, the freedom them get to use about any kid of material, and the oddball humor of Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman all come together for another of those easygoing competition shows where there’s very little competition. It’s so lovely and soothing.

3. And on the other end of the spectrum, Alton Brown is back on Chopped with his cruel and unusual baskets. He can bring the pain like no one else, and he does. And I am so entertained! Thank you, Food Network, for letting Mr. Brown run loose in the Chopped kitchen!
