1. I’m trying really hard not to say soccer yet again, even though earlier today I saw the goalkeeper for Liverpool FC score the winning shot with a header off of a corner kick in the 94th minute of 4 minutes of stoppage. (The goalkeeper! Scored!) And then my beloved Sporting KC won 3-0 at home, in between thunderstorms (or, hopefully, after thunderstorms as we could really use a break from more rain this evening). I think they roared back to life after a sad midweek loss against Houston because my favorite player was back on the pitch, goalkeeper Tim Melia, who has been riding the bench recovering from a preseason injury. (Yes, I have a type. See also: Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, aka The Wall.) But because I don’t want to say soccer yet again, I will say that I am very happy about the packages I found of Pepperidge Farm Milanos, pre-portioned for things like my work lunches. They are delicately ensconced in a plastic holder that keeps them from breaking, which is (while probably not environmentally pleasing) utterly charming. The only downside is that they only put 2 cookies in per serving.
2. I had 3 days off this week, and they felt like such a luxury. After getting up in the morning to feed the cat, I went back to bed to read for a while. I cleaned out the freezer and refrigerator and some pantry shelves. I got to rest and hang out with my favorite dude and favorite cat, and I just enjoyed being free of a time clock and assignments and an agenda. It was absolutely lovely, and I wish I could do that every week. (Come on, Mega Millions!)
3. A couple of weeks ago, I shared a photo of most of my Indie Bookstore Day booty. This is the last of it, Jenny Lawson’s latest book Broken and her inspirational/coloring book You Are Here, both signed, thanks to Nowhere Bookshop in San Antonio, TX. I was going to take a pic of the signature and show that off here, but DonDon was just too comfortable and I didn’t want to move him. (Followers of my book blog will know that I got an early copy of Broken and LOVED it! You can see that review here.)
