1. There are some great cooking competitions on right now. I’ve already talked about the Food Network Tournament of Champions, which we’re enjoying. And my bracket has taken some damage, but it’s not completely broken yet. (Yet.) And Hell’s Kitchen? We’re down to the final 3, so next Thursday the winner will be chosen. Very much looking forward to that! And Top Chef has started up again. It’s a good time to be a fan of cooking tournaments!

2. We got our Fire Cube all set up, with all our streaming apps in one place and signed into so we can watch pretty much anything at any time. And while I may have spent some time earlier today watching an older season of The Great British Baking Show, I’ve also been spending time with a show I found on Netflix one morning, not sure what I was looking for. It’s Criminal UK, and it takes place almost entirely in an interrogation room and the observation/recording room next to it. The writing is good, the acting is superb, and I really like it. Each episode is about a different crime/criminal interrogation, and I think they do an exceptional job at getting in the heads of the police and those they suspect of crimes. It’s very cerebral, but if you like that sort of thing, give it a shot and let me know what you think.

3. It’s been a good weekend. I got my first shot (Pfizer, so I go back in 3 weeks for the second one). We’ve had good weather. I got to hang out with my favorite DonDon (shown below; isn’t he cute??). We found a new pizza place that we both really like (Toppers, if you’re here in KC too). I got to visit with my mother for a little bit, something I haven’t done much of this last year. And the world is starting to feel a little hopeful again. The sky is blue, the lawns are green, the trees are budding, the flowers are coming up, lots of people are getting the covid vaccine, and I feel like I can start to let go of some of my hypervigilance. It’s still going to take some time, but this summer should be filled with meals eaten in restaurants, trips to museums, bookstore runs, hangouts with friends, and—of course—hiding from the heat by staying in and reading books and watching 7,000 streaming services. Because I am still an introvert and a homebody, and the best thing about getting to go out again is getting to come back home and recover from that.
