So. There is finishing the year strong, and then there is whatever I did. It was less than I’d wanted to, but life did not go as I’d anticipated. In fact, I didn’t even hear midnight on New Year’s Eve. I was passed out asleep. And so far, the year is not starting out great, as we are having a blizzard. We currently have about a foot of snow sitting on a solid glaze of ice, so that’s fun, right? (No, it is not.) I am starting to understand why people move to warmer states. Very tempting at the moment. Anyway, let’s talk books.
just finished: I needed a comfort read last week, so I grabbed the audio version of Hen of the Baskervilles by Donna Andrews. I hadn’t read that one before, and I loved it. It helped me get through the week. I love everything Meg and Caerphilly, and it was so great to hang out there for a couple of days.
currently reading: oooooooh, have I got a doozy right now! In A Perfect Home, reality tv husband-and-wife home rehabbers are America’s darlings. But when they have twins, Dawn starts to wonder if the black market meds her husband took to help them conceive have affected his personality because she is becoming genuinely afraid of him. And afraid for their twins. So she is on the run with the kids, not knowing where to turn or who would believe her. This one is told in alternating perspectives between the husband and wife, and it’s quite a ride! With the blizzard closing the city down tomorrow, I will be curled up on the sofa with this one finding out what happens.
I’m also still listening to Rivals, and wow, is this one crazy! There is high drama, lots of sex, and out-of-control egos. I’m hoping to write this one up for this week. It is crazy bananas!
up next: I am really looking forward to this one! It’s gonna be dark, people, but it sounds funny. A woman with a terminal illness decides to kill the father who abandoned her. This won’t be for everyone, but I think it’s definitely for me. Watch for it on bookstore shelves April 1 (no fooling).
Happy New Year to you all! I hope your 2025 reading challenges fill up with great books that make you happy, make you laugh, make you cry, and make you want to read more books.
