just finished: The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco. It’s a mystery about Capri Sanzio, a women who runs a tour company in San Francisco, and their serial killer tour is one of the most popular. She knows a lot about serial killers in San Francisco, as her grandfather was the notorious “Overkill Bill.” And when a wealthy woman is murdered in a copycat fashion, Capri is interested. And then when her former mother-in-law is next victim of the copycat, she knows that she has to look into it. This is a fun read with a lot of layers to the investigation. It came out last week, so you can pick up a copy of this one right away.

currently reading: How To Slay at Work. An assistant to a demanding boss, Millie has had to put up with a lot of arbitrary rules and high standards. But when she goes to a conference out of town with her and sees her out back of the hotel, dressed in black and scaling the building, Millie is perplexed. And then a guest dies under suspicious circumstances. Millie thinks it has to be a coincidence, no matter what she’d seen. But when they go to another out-of-town conference, where another man dies, she has to wonder. Is she working for a serial killer? This one is so much fun for readers who have a dark sense of humor like me.

up next: I got a couple of new cookbooks that come out October 8 that I’m really excited about. Easy Weeknight Dinners (I don’t know about you, but I feel like we always need help with that!) is a collection of popular recipes from the writers at New York Times Cooking. There are 100 tested recipes, divided by the types of meals they are (pasta, chicken, the usual sort of thing). But there is also a chart at the front of the book that offers shortcuts, like Tastes Like Pizza, I Only Cook on a Sheet Pan, Vegan (or Easy to Veganize) Dinners, Truly Fifteen-Minute Recipes (We Promise), or Dinner Party Vibes, But on a Tuesday. This one should be lots of fun.
