currently reading: Rachel Weiss’s Group Chat, and I am loving this one. It’s out Tuesday, and it’s got a little bit of Pride Prejudice and a touch of Bridget Jones, and a little bit of grown-up Georgia Nicholson with her friend group. So really, there’s nothing not to like about this book. Rachel is a single Jewish woman living in Seattle, and she is loving her life. Her mother is always carping on her to get married, and her job isn’t the greatest, but she has a great friends group and an active social life. What more could she need? Certainly not the tech millionaire who just bought his parents the house next door to her parents’ house. Even if he is funny. And smart. And kind. And brings her cookies after saving her life. But he’s not right for her. Clearly.
I’m also reading the new Sophie Sullivan, Can’t Help Falling in Love. A high school track star had to drop out of college to move back home and take care of her parents. While she is working her second job, avoiding girls she went to school with who are all a lot more successful than she is, she meets up with a CEO who is putting together a big deal with a family-focused company. They start up a fake relationship and keep it going until they realize they are developing real feelings. Can their fake engagement last through their fist date? I am a big fan of Sullivan, and this one is just as fun as her others. This one just came out last week, so watch for it in your local bookstores.
up next: There are a couple of books coming out on October 8 that I want to talk about. First is the follow-up to the Kamogawa Food Detectives, which I loved so much. It’s about a father and daughter who work to bring food memories back to their clients. It’s such an amazing book, and the next book in the series, The Restaurant of Lost Recipes, will be available next month.
The other book I want to highlight is Sophie Kinsella’s new book What Does It Feel Like? Sophie Kinsella is best known for her Shopaholic books, but I adored her last year’s The Burnout. Since that book was published, she publicly shared that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and had been dealing with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Publicly, she is doing well and trying to stay positive. In her new book, she writes about an author who is dealing with a brain tumor, so this will be a look into her life since her diagnosis. It’s fiction, but anyone who has written fiction knows that only some of it gets invented. This is going to be a powerful book, so I wanted to make sure you know all about it.
