currently reading: I’m still reading You May Now Kill the Bride. I keep getting distracted from it, and I want this to be the week I finish it. Because who killed the bride? I want to know.
I’m also reading How To Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying. It’s not exactly what I expected (honestly I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect), but it is quite a ride. If you’re into snarky sci fi, then you should take a look at this one.
I’ve also just started Summer Fridays, which comes out Tuesday. It’s a rom com set in New York and has been compared to Nora Ephron. I mean, Nora. How could I let this one get past me? Of course I had to read it! I’m not too far in yet, but I am looking forward to diving in tomorrow. Because a bonus day off from work is for reading, right?
up next: let me just warn you, June 4 is a mega release day. It would be an excellent day to head to your local indie bookstore and stock up. There are rom coms galore for beach/pool/sofa with air conditioning reading, and I’ll be talking about several of those. But one of the books I’m super excited about it Miss May Does Not Exist. Elaine May has been a strong comic voice in Hollywood behind the scenes. She got started as half of the comic act Nichols and May, and those who are also Hollywood nerds might wonder if that is Mike Nichols she was paired with (yes, it was. And if you can find recordings of some of their pieces, it’s an amazing experience. There are probably corners of the internet where they are stored.) When Nichols left the comedy team to start winning all the awards of directing, Elaine May went into screenwriting and playwriting. Many of the lines you’ve found yourself laughing at in the theaters came from her brilliant mind (Tootsie, The Birdcage). And I can’t wait to learn more about that. If you’re a comedy/entertainment nerd like me, watch for this one out June 4.
