currently reading: this week is about 2 words. Cheese. Christmas. Those are two good words. For tomorrow, I am reading Madame Fromage’s Adventures in Cheese, a compendium about eating cheese, making cheese, pairing cheese, and exploring the world in cheese-forward places. It’s delicious. I’m also reading Case of the Bleus, the latest Cheese Shop Mystery from Korina Moss. It’s about Willa’s mentor in the cheese industry, a man who owned the shop she worked in before she opened her own. He just died, and the secret of his famous bleu cheese may have gone with him. He said he would leave the location of his secret cave to his favorite cheesemonger, but the reading of the will left the secrets a secret. Then the woman considered his favorite at his shop is killed. Can Willa figure out who killed her friend and find the secrets of the bleu? Or will the cheese stand alone? (Too much? Nah. It’s cheesy, but I’m okay with that.
I’ve also started reading The Christmas Wager, which feels like it could be a Hallmark movie. The corporate woman from L.A. flies to the small town in Colorado to negotiate a real estate deal for some land. On the land is a small store of Christmas goods that brings in tourists from all over the country. The grandfather is ready to sell and retire, paying off all his debts and letting go. But the grandson isn’t ready to let go. Based on the title, I’m guessing a bet will be a part of this story. But mostly I think it will be all about the love.
I’m also reading the next Tallulah Casey book from Louise Rennison, a Midsummer Tight’s Dream, because sometimes you just need a little lunacy in your life. And Tallulah and her friends certainly bring that.
up next: hold on to your hats, people, because October 3 there is a tsunami of amazing books coming out. I had to stop requesting them and just put them on my list to buy when I can because there are so many. Just a few things to watch for: the seafood cookbook from Eric Ripert that we’ve been waiting for, new Jennifer McMahon, new Tessa Bailey, new Josie Silver, new Michele Campbell, and if you’re one of those people not looking forward to the holidays with your family (believe me, I see you!), there is Surrounded by Energy Vampires by Thomas Erikson. But really, just go to your favorite bookstore and browse those tables up front, because there will be something for everyone, and something for everyone on your gift list.
