currently reading: I was hoping to get a lot of reading done this weekend, but I wasn’t feeling great, so I only got some reading done. But it’s some good reading. Books out this week: new Lisa Jewell, None of This Is True. Julia Cameron’s creative memoir Floor Sample. Megan Goldin’s follow-up to Night Swim, Dark Corners. Mhairi McFarlane’s new rom com Between Us. Laura Childs’ new tearoom mystery, Honey Drop Dead. And I didn’t get very far on any of them. (It just means I’ll need to read more this week.) But I did spend some time with Under the Influence, which the publisher is saying is The Devil Wears Prada meets The Assistants. An out-of-work editor/writer is offered a job as an assistant to an influencer, and with a giant salary plus housing, she doesn’t feel like she can say no. So she packs up and moves to Nashville to start her new Green life. It’s a little horrifying and a little hilarious, and I am loving it. You’ll want to keep an eye out for this one. But it won’t be too hard—the cover is bright green.

up next: so I actually started reading this one already, but it’s not out until the end of the month. Lord Honey, by Chef Jason Smith, is filled with Southern hospitality and Jason’s outsized personality. Smith has been on the Food Network for years, as the winner of Next Food Network Star and as the host of baking competitions. He is always dressed to the nines and full of sassy Southern sayings. As soon as I heard he had a cookbook coming out, I contacted the publisher and asked, pretty please, for an early look. And they said yes! Watch for this one August 28!
