currently reading: get ready, folks. The new Jennifer Weiner is out this Tuesday, and it’s fantastic. I’m not done reading, but I am loving this story that melds the author’s love of bicycling with her stories about non-skinny women. If you follow Weiner’s social media, you’ll see that she loves to talk cycling and has even planned author events around local bike rides. In The Breakaway, a woman who trying to decide if she should move in with her boyfriend (perfect on paper, a little less so in real life). A friend asks her to lead a 2 week bicycling group, and one of the riders is the guy she had an unforgettable night with when she’s been out of town as a bridesmaid. What’s a girl to do? (Ya, I don’t know yet, but I can’t wait to find out!)
But I can’t talk about that one here until Wednesday, because one of the cookbooks I have been waiting years for (literally!) is coming out on Tuesday. But first, we should talk about the cookbook coming out Monday. The winner of Food Network’s season 13 of Food Network Star. Jason Smith stole the season with his down-home sayings, his Southern cooking, and his outsized personality. He can still be found judging baking shows like Best Baker in America. He has finally put together a cookbook of his Southern favorites called Lord Honey, so you can grab a copy this week, or just add it to your list of holiday presents.
And then Tuesday, it’s finally time for Great British Bake Off favorite German baker Jurgen Krauss, The German Baking Book. Ever since watching that season of Bake Off (probably my favorite groups of bakers), I have loved his dry humility and his technical expertise, and this Tuesday he is sharing it all with us, and I am so excited!!! For anyone feeling like buying me a present, I have PDFs of both of these cookbooks, but I also have them on my list to buy once they are available (wink emoji).
up next: well, September has some great books coming out, with new books out from Lindsey Kelk, Jilly Gagnon, KJ Dell’Antonia, M.C. Beaton, Jessica Knoll, and Korina Moss. But I’m thrilled to have this show up on my doorstop this weekend. I saw on my email from the Mysterious Bookshop that they list some of their first editions and signed editions, and I saw this beauty on that list for a very reasonable price. I found Thurber when I was in middle school, wandering through the stacks of my local library, and I fell in love almost instantly. So when I saw a Thurber first edition that I could buy and get shipped to me, I was all in. Thank you, Mysterious Bookshop! You rock!
