currently reading: I am reading The Centre, from Gillian Flynn’s imprint, and it’s fascinating. A woman finds out about an immersive language training centre and signs up to learn German. But it’s not that simple, because it’s never that simple. This is beautifully written, from the perspective of a Pakistani woman, and I am really loving her point of view. This one came out last week, so you can pick it up and start reading now, and at this point in my reading, I definitely recommend it.

I’m also reading One of the Boys, which also came out last week. It’s about a world where infant boys can be tested for what they’re calling the M gene, which they have determined is the violent gene that turns boys into violent men. Sisters Bea and Antonia had sons about the same time. One has grown up without a lot of resources or love. The other one has had all the advantages. One is a monster, but which one? And what happens when their parents figure out which is which? I’m so excited about this one, as I will be part of a blog tour, and I have an excerpt to share as well. It was originally to be released this coming Tuesday, but it got bumped up. I haven’t heard for certain why, but I have heard some rumblings about that possible looming UPS strike, so if you’re needing any books soon, order sooner rather than later (for a book club, especially, if you’re ordering several copies). Just something to keep in mind over the next few weeks.

Things have been a little crazy lately, so I honestly don’t know what’s coming up next. But how about I talk about some cookbooks coming out this fall? I don’t have early galleys for all of them, but I know how to order the finished copies from my favorite bookstore when it’s time. The one I’m most excited for is Great British Bake Off Jurgen Krauss’s Great German Baking Book. But there are also new cookbooks coming out from Alex Guarnaschelli, Michael Symon, Jason Smith, Jose Andres, Nancy Silverton, Eric Ripert, Lidia Bastianich, and Amy Thielen, just to name a few. Holiday presents galore for cooks and bakers alike!
