currently reading: I’m still reading the new Megan Abbott, Beware the Woman. It is dark and twisty, and I think I know what’s happening, but it’s Megan Abbott, so I feel like I have to leave room for being completely wrong. I’m hoping to say more tomorrow. Jacy and Jed met and fell instantly in love. After a brief courtship they married, and now they’re expecting a baby. They went to visit Jed’s father in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and Jacy finds herself with a lot of questions. While Jed’s father is kind to her, she feels like there is more going on with him and Jed than Jed is telling her about. There is also a caretaker, Mrs. Brandt, who has a way of knowing what Jacy is thinking, which she finds off-putting. And when a medical situation means they have to stay with Jed’s father for longer than they’d anticipated, Jacy has to decide what she’s willing to do to protect herself and her baby.

I’m also reading the new Paul Rudnick that comes out Tuesday, Farrell Covington and the Limits of Style. So far, it is classic Rudnick—smart, snide, and supergay—but with a surprising vulnerability. I have been a fan of Rudnick sine the ‘90s, so I am so excited to be reading this. It’s the love story of two men who meet in college and stay in touch through decades. Nate is a drama student from New Jersey who could barely afford the Ivy League college he got into. Farrell is the son of a wealthy family who want him to move back to Wichita and work for the family business, but he is miserable and stifled when he’s around them. This novel follows them through their lives, and through critical years in American history. I am a big fan of Rudnick’s humor, so I am looking forward to this journey!

up next: The Dos and Donuts of love. It’s a rom com, and it has Donuts in the title. I can’t wait for this one!
