currently reading: the latest by Nick Spalding, Old Boys, about a man and his father reconnecting after many decades apart. It’s funny but also sweet, which is what Nick Spalding tends to do. It’s one to look for. I’ve also started Hiss Me Deadly by Miranda James. It’s the latest in the Cat in the Stacks series, and I’m really enjoying it! Also coming out this week is the latest from Vivien Chien’s Noodle Shop Mysteries, and I am particularly excited about this one. Anyone who follows Chien on social media knows that she has not had an easy time of it. And now she’s healthy again and her new book, Misfortune Cookie, will be in stores this Tuesday.

up next: Some more good cozies! Out this week is also Meri Allen’s Fatal Fudge Swirl (ice cream!) and next week is Sophie Ryan’s Scaredy Cat, the latest in her Second Chance Cay Mystery.

And less cozy but definitely thrilling is this one. I was so excited to find this one on my doorstep! The Centre, out July 11 from Gillian Flynn’s imprint. A translator finds herself in an unusual language learning school and things get dangerous. It sounds dark and tense and darkly funny, so I can’t wait to dig in!
