currently reading: I am reading the latest by Katy Birchall, The Last Word, about two journalists who fight and flirt and fight some more. It’s a fun story, told in Birchall’s delightful way, and I am loving this. I just found out that she’s also written some books for younger readers (middle grade, tweens), so I have added those to my TBR to get caught up. But seriously, if you call yourself a rom com fan and haven’t yet read The Secret Bridesmaid, then you are missing out! And watch for The Last Word out Tuesday.

I’m also reading The Body by the Sea, the latest in Jean-Luc Bannalec’s police procedurals set in Brittany, France. I haven’t read one of these in a few years (The Fleur de Sel Murders), but I am loving it.

up next: Dave Barry’s Swamp Story, also out Tuesday. It’s a crazy story from Florida, told as only a Florida man can. I think it’s going to be a dumpster fire of crazy characters making bad decisions, and I cannot wait to dive in properly!

And Ten Speed Press was kind enough to gift me with this beauty, which comes out May 9. I’m not sure what I’ve been doing, but it was not even on my radar that Aaron Franklin had a new book coming out. His iconic Franklin Barbecue has insane lines every single day for his famous brisket, and he’s bringing his secrets to grilling to home cooks. His first cookbook, Franklin Barbecue, is all about his famous barbecue secrets. His second cookbook, Franklin Steak, is all about getting the best flavor from steak. And now, it’s time for Franklin Smoke to teach us everything we need to know about smoking and grilling in our backyards and bringing all the flavor. I am so excited about this one!
