just finished: Last week was a rough one at work, so I needed some comfort listening. Sue Grafton’s E Is for Evidence hit the spot. I listened to it in two days, and I loved every minute. Kinsey makes me so happy!
currently reading: The Renaissance of Gwen Hathaway. It’s a ya romance, but it’s so good! Madeline and her father work the Renaissance Faires, traveling almost the entire year. It used to be three of them, but Madeline’s mother died a year before. Now they’re back at the Faire that was her mother’s favorite and the last one they were at together before she’d gotten sick. Now Madeline is trying to deal with her grief and her frustration that someone new has bought this fairgrounds and has changed everything. And on top of that, there is an annoying bard who is following her around, calling her Gwen and flirting with her. How is she supposed to deal with that? This one us super charming!
I’m also reading Bitches in Bonnets, which is a non-fiction book about the mean girls in Jane Austen books. If you’re an Austen fan, and you’ve been bullied at school or at work from a mean girl, then you’ll love this book! It’s smart and honest and funny and so, so true!
I’m also reading Richard Ayode’s new book, The Book No One Wanted to Read. If you don’t know who he is, then you need to watch the ‘90s Britcom The IT Crowd. First of all, it’s a very funny show. It’s one of those shows I will watch over and over, especially when the world seems so dark. There are some episodes and some jokes that aren’t as funny now as they thought they were then, but it’s still worth your time. And second, it has Richard Ayode in it. He plays a computer genius and social oddball Maurice Moss, and he is one of the funniest characters who has ever been on television. I love Moss, I love Ayode, and I love that this book is just to completely him. My only complaint is that the illustrations by Tor Freeman are almost as funny as the writing, so it’s really hard to read on my phone. I need a bigger screen to get the full effect of the illustrations. But otherwise, this book is completely fun and enjoyable and surprising and just what I hoped it would be. You’ll want to check this out for your kids (and for yourself!) as soon as you can!
up next: Out this Tuesday is the follow up to Under Lock and Skeleton Key by Gigi Pandian. I really enjoyed that one, and I have the audio book for this one, The Raven Thief. I will be listening to this one this week, and I am excited. I love the idea of these Secret Staircase Mysteries, and I can’t wait to see where this one takes me.
