currently reading: well, I was hoping to talk about The Sanctuary last week, but I just couldn’t make the words work, so that will be the feature tomorrow. It’s so good. It’s the last book in the series for us English speakers (the original series—in Danish, I’m guessing—has 5 books, but only 4 are got translated for America), and I am sad about that. I’m so grateful for getting to read these books. It’s been quite a journey.

Anyway, Tuesday is the release of Best Served Hot, an enemies-to-lovers rom com about food writers in NYC. She’s a social media reviewer, open to all types of foods and eager to talk about the hot new chefs. He’s a newspaper reviewer focusing on the restaurants with the tasting menus and expensive win lists that the New York old guard eat at. Sparks fly at their first meeting at the Central Park Food Festival, and the heat simmers from there. It’s a lot of fun, it’s smart, and frankly, it’s making me hungry. But I am loving this one, and I can’t wait to talk about it this week.

up next: another book coming out this week that I’ve really been looking forward to, The Writing Retreat, a thriller about a group of writers invited to an exclusive retreat where they all have a month to write a novel from scratch. The best novel will win the author a lucrative publishing deal, so it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. But strange things start happening, and when one writer disappears altogether, the rest of the writers have to decide if the opportunity is really worth it.

No bookmail this week, but I wanted to share this. This week was Valentine’s Day, and my beloved got me chocolates from my favorite local chocolatier, Christopher Elbow. This year’s Valentine’s box included a bunch of hearts with flavors based on classic love stories. So there’s Romeo and Juliet, with the flavor of Raspberry Rose. Elizabeth and Darcy are Lavender. Cleopatra and Marc Antony are Passion Fruit. And my favorite of the couples, Buttercup and Wesley, are Crème Brulee. It’s an amazing idea, executed perfectly, and absolutely delicious. The other box doesn’t have the storyline to it, just amazing flavors!
