just finished: Friday I finished my audio book for the new Vera Stanhope novel, The Rising Tide. I love a new Ann Cleeves! I couldn’t write up my thoughts Friday, as there was a medical emergency in the family, so I get to talk all about it tomorrow.

currently reading: I am reading the new cookbook from Minneapolis chef and Top Chef contestant Justin Sutherland, Northern Soul, which comes out Tuesday. I am also working on a cozy that came out a couple of weeks ago, Peg and Rose solve a murder. Peg and Rose are sisters-in-law with a mildly contentious relationship but become bridge partners and then crime-solving partners when another bridge player is murdered. It’s lots of fun. Cozy fans will want to watch for this one in the stores.

up next: while I’m talking about Top Chef contestants, coming out later this fall is a memoir from Fatima Ali, who appeared on the show shortly before getting a devastating diagnosis. This is her final memoir, a gift to her fans and to anyone who loves food. Honestly, I’m a little worried about reading it. I think I will need an entire box of tissues, but I’m sure it will be worth it. Fatima had such an amazing spirit and sense of wonder, I have no doubt that this book will bring joy along with the sadness, warmth along with the loss, and humor along with the anger of cancer cutting another life too short. The book is called Savor, and it will be on shelves early in October. Add it to your wish lists or you library holds now. And stock up on Puffs.

No new bookmail this week, but we did get our Chewy box, and someone was very happy to hop right on into that box and start playing with the new mouse toys.
