currently reading: I am reading a book called The Fixer Upper, which has captivated me this weekend. It came out last Tuesday, and I am definitely sending this one out as highly recommended. When Aly bumps into her ex-boyfriend and realized that since they broke up, he cleaned himself up, got a real job, fell in love, got married, and is about to buy a house, Aly is stunned. This is a guy who had been living in his mother’s house without much momentum. And now he’s successful and appears to be a good husband. So what happened? After talking to her two best friends at work, they do some internet research and find out that all of Aly’s exes are doing better since they parted ways with her. Like, significantly better. Her friends decide that she is the thing that happened to them all. She was one who nudged them in the right direction, encouraged them, cheered them on, and made the difference in their lives. Her friend think that there may be a business in this, a way to nudge others into changes that will be good for them. A hint to put a ring on it, a nudge towards support and friendship for a stay-at-home dad—that sort of thing. But when an influencer/reality star asks Aly to take an entire month to exclusively work on her boyfriend. And when the boyfriend shows up and Aly finds out that it’s first boyfriend, she is stunned. The concept for this one is just phenomenal, and I can’t wait to find out what happens. I’m also reading the new cozy from Laura Childs, A Dark and Stormy Tea, which is the perfect title for this one. And Megan Goldin has a new thriller coming out, Stay Awake, which is terrific so far.
up next: Out next Tuesday is the new one from Julian Barnes. His new non-traditional love story Elizabeth Finch sounds intriguing and poignant, meaningful and sad. Or, exactly what I would expect from him. Watch for it! Also, I opened my front door yesterday to find this on my doorstep. I love surprise bookmail, and I think this cozy looks fantastic! Look for this one in stores at the end of August.
