snapshot 4.3

just finished: yesterday I finished listening to C Is for Corpse. I am flying through the early Sue Grafton books, but then they were pretty straightforward. following a similar formula for the story. It’s the later books where she got off that initial formula and Kinsey grows into a richer, amazing woman. I am loving this reread with audio books, but I am not giving enough love to my other audio books, and I need to give them a chance too.

currently reading: let me just say that there are so many books coming out this week! This would be a good week to go hang out at the bookstore and start to find some fun spring/summer reading. I have started Reputation by Lex Croucher. It’s a little bit Jane Austen and a little bit Gossip Girl. I haven’t gotten to far, but I am already loving the comedic voice (lots of snark), and I can’t wait to get back to it. Also out this week is The Younger Wife by Sally Hepworth (I absolutely loved her last The Good Sister) and The Shadow House by Anna Downes (last summer’s The Safe Place was so lush and creepy!). Another one to watch for is Grant Grinder’s Lets Not Do That Again. I haven’t read anything by him, but I’ve been wanting to since I heard about his People We Hate at the Wedding. I am so excited to dig into that one! So this week there is a little bit of everything, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to pull all that off, but I hope.

There is also a cookbook coming out this week that I am supposed to be talking about. A publicist contacted me about 50 Things to Bake Before You Die, which is a compilation of recipes from some of today’s best pastry chefs. And I screwed up and gave her the wrong address to send it to. So if it ever finds its way here, I will be so happy about that and say (I’m guessing) nice things because we’re talking about recipes from Joanne Chang, Christina Tosi, Dominique Ansel, and many others, and how can any of that be bad? So bakers, and those who buy gifts for bakers, keep an eye out for this one!
