currently reading: I am still going back and forth between the audiobooks for J. Kenji Lopez-Alt’s The Wok and Being Mary Bennet. They are completely different but both amazing. I have a lot of listening to do this week, because I also have an audio galley for Sense and Second-Degree Murder, Tirzah Price’s follow-up to Pride and Premeditation, which came out last week. And the audiobook for Fifty-Four Pigs, which comes out next week. I just stumbled on this one a few weeks ago. It’s a mystery for fans of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club or Alexander’s McCall Smith’s The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. The detective in this one is a vet, who investigates when a swine barn explodes. I can’t wait to get started on it!

I have also started reading a book that comes out Tuesday, and I have to talk about it. Funny You Should Ask is a rom com with a really interesting premise and setup. There is a magazine writer who was hired to write a piece on the pretty boy actor hired to play the next James Bond, the first American in the role. He has a reputation for being a little light on intelligence, especially compared to his British costar who fans wanted to get picked next for the role. She was hired to hang out with him over the weekend and write something that convinces people he could play Bond. That article made her career. Now it’s ten years later, and she’s being asked to redo that weekend and the article, as his new movie is about to be released. The book starts with the article she wrote, and then goes on to the real story of Friday Then. And then it goes to Friday Now. And then to Saturday. And then to Sunday. Reading this book so far has been effortless. I jump in to the pages, and everything else drops away. It’s interesting, it’s funny, and if you’re a rom com fan, be sure to jump on this one next week! It’s worth it!

I was also super excited to see that Ten Speed Press and Clarkson Potter sent these to me this week. They both come out on Tuesday, and I just know I’m going to love them. I was hoping for I Dream of Dinner (So You Don’t Have To) because weekday dinners are always such a chore. I am always excited to see how others handle it, to get new ideas for that Thursday night dinner. And Bludso’s BBQ Cookbook? Yes! As a Kansas City girl, you know I love to talk barbecue. I can’t wait to dig into these this week and let you all know what I think! (Thank you, Ten Speed and Clarkson Potter for the free cookbooks! Love that bookmail!)
