shedding the past

Ros Reynolds is back in London after spending three years in the states working in radio. And while Washington, D.C. was exciting, she is thrilled to be back home with her friends and new opportunities. But things just aren’t the same anymore. Her room at her parent’s house is no longer welcoming. Now her parents are enjoying a romantic reset, but they graciously set up the shed in the garden as her new room. And where she used to meet her friends for drinks and snacks. a dive, but it was their place, now they have a new bar were they go to hang out and drink. And Ros has a new phone.

While getting the new phone set up, Ros constructed a text to her old friends, coworkers, and acquaintances to let them know she’s back in town, she accidentally hits the button that sends it out to all of her contacts. Even the ones that hadn’t been on her phone anymore, like that of her ex-boyfriend Patrick. But when he texts back, she has to think long and hard about her reply.

But her spontaneous text also brought a text from a previous coworker about a new job. PodPad, a podcast network is looking for experienced producers, so she says she’ll put in a good word for Ros. And against all her friends’ warnings, Ros texts Patrick and agrees to meet up with him again.

But things aren’t quite as smooth as it seemed at first. Ros gets the producer job but is then tasked with coming up with a podcast idea for 14-year-old gaming sensation Snazzlechuff, even though she knows nothing about gaming. She loves hanging out with her friends at the new bar they’ve chosen, although she got off on the wrong foot with the bar owner, John, who they all love and have on a group text. And while she loves that she and Patrick are spending time together again, there is something missing in the relationship for Ros.

As she’s juggling her new podcast idea and its big launch, making plans for her parents’ vow renewal, making time for her friends, and coming to terms with how much has changed in the last three years, Ros also wants to find a way to focus on what’s most important to her. But it’s not until everything goes that wrong that Ros can figure out how to make things right for her.

In Case You Missed It is a charming rom com about staying true to yourself as you make plans for your future. Author Lindsey Kelk has created a strong character in Ros, and while she makes plenty of mistakes, she is smart enough to learn from them and move forward. There are scenes in this that are laugh-out-loud funny, and some that are bittersweet and a little heart-breaking.

I really enjoyed In Case You Missed It. I liked Ros and lot, and I wish I could be a friend in that group of hers, because I love their loyalty, their intelligence, and their heart. I listened to this on audio, and narrator Sophie Roberts added the pitch perfect voice to Ros and her life back in London. This is a fun rom com with great characters, a charming romance, and lots of fun.

Egalleys for In Case You Missed It were provided by HarperCollins through Edelweiss, with many thanks, but I bought the audio myself through Chirp.
