currently reading: Built to Last, which came out last week. Three teens grew up on television in front of the country, in a sitcom about growing up and being teenagers. Lyle was the star, Shelby played his love interest, and Cameron was his best friend. But behind the scenes, it was Shelby and Cameron who were sneaking around together. But then Lyle broke her heart, and Shelby left L.A. to move back to Michigan. She spent several years fixing up old houses with her dad, and now Lyle is back, wanting to produce a home rehab show starring Shelby. But she needs a cohost, and her father is not great in front of the camera, so Lyle suggests Cameron. He’d been traveling the world making nature documentaries, but when Shelby called, he headed to Michigan. This one is, well, just as charming as it sounds. More about it tomorrow.
Ina Garten’s new cookbook is out on Tuesday, so you know I’ll have things to say about that. And Kensington was nice enough to send me a copy of No Strangers Here along with a beautiful tote bag, and that one is out on Tuesday also. It’s the latest by Carlene O’Connor, whose cozies I have been devouring for years (her Irish Village Mystery series is my favorite, but I also enjoyed Murder in Connemara, from her Home to Ireland mystery series). This is a different type of mystery, more atmospheric, more of a thriller feel. I’ll be working some more on this one in the next few days, and then I think I’ll have a lot more to say.
I have started listening to the Alan Rickman. It’s very much about the business, so it may not be for all fans of his work. But I’m still enjoying it. I did stumble on a short excerpt before I bought the book, so I knew what I was getting into. I’d definitely recommend that—read or listen to an excerpt before you jump in. If you’re not that into the behind-the-scenes stuff of moviemaking and theatre, you might want to skip it. If you don’t care and just want to learn more about him, them by all means, jump in with both feet.
