just finished: nothing. There was some family stuff going on. But I think we’ve got things back under control for now, and I can focus on reading more.
currently reading: Still reading The Bookshop of Second Chances and the Jeff Goldblum. And I’m a little over halfway through The Summer Job by Lizzy Dent. It’s been compared to Sweetbitter, and I can see that, although this is a novel. A woman pretends to be a sommelier at a small boutique hotel in Scotland, and hijinks ensue. It’s a great book for vacation, especially for a vacation at home, since you get to go to Scotland! For the ultimate Scottish experience, read it with The Bookshop of Second Chances. I’ve also jumped into The Ivies, about a group of young women headed for Ivy League schools and just how far they’ll go to make sure they get in.
up next: There are some good chef memoirs coming up, including Peter Hoffman’s What’s Good and Liz Hauck’s Home Made. And if that gets your engine running, then be aware that Alice Waters has a new book coming out June 1, We Are What We Eat. I don’t have an early copy of that one, but it’s definitely on my radar, and I will be acquiring it sometime this year.
I realized a couple of weeks ago that I posted my second batch of Indie Bookstore goodies here but not my first batch, which I posted only on my gratitude blog. So here is the rest of my booty. Super excited about the signed copy of the newest Anne Lamott book. The paperbacks on the top row all came from my local indie, Rainy Day Books, which I am happy to say will be opening their doors to in-store customers again June 1. I am excited! Especially since it’s located in an area of town not too far from Fairway Creamery, where my favorite KC chocolatier sells his ice cream and doughnuts to those lucky enough to know he’s there.
