just finished: nothing new. I was hoping to get some reading done this weekend, and I have. I just haven’t finished anything. But let’s talk about one of the books that I’m reading that comes out on Tuesday. It’s Andy Weir’s new The Hail Mary Project. It’s phenomenal. I’m about a third of the way in and having so much trouble setting is aside to take care of life things, like the chicken pot pie I made for dinner. Because I love this book! I love it maybe even more than The Martian. But here’s the problem with it—I can’t really talk about it. At the beginning of the book, the main character doesn’t know where he is or who he is or what’s going on, and the reason for all of that is so much a part of the story that I don’t want to give anything away. Just know that you should definitely read this book as soon as you can. And I haven’t heard any of the audiobook for this one, but it’s narrated by Ray Porter, who reads a lot of my favorite sci fi audiobooks, and I think it’s going to be amazing. I will be tempted net Audible Credit Day to buy it, even though I’ve already read it, just to hear this read by Ray Porter. Get ready people. It’s all systems go on this one!
currently reading: I’m also still reading The Siren, the latest by Katherine St. John, who brought us last year’s The Lion’s Den. I really liked that one, but this one is stunning. We’re on the film set of a movie called The Siren. It stars Cole Power and his ex-wife Stella Rivers and is being directed by their son Jason. The entire thing is being filmed on an isolated island owned by Cole. Told in turn by Stella, producer Taylor, and Stella’s assistant Felicity, as well as through old newspaper and magazine clippings and chapters of Stella’s as-yet unsold memoir. I’m closing in on halfway, but I don’t think I’m even close to knowing half of the secrets that are boiling just under the surface in this fun beach read. I am loving it, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me!
up next: This week is also about the ya novels that are coming out to keep the teenagers (and others) entertained this summer. Glitter Gets Everywhere, Sunkissed, Sloppy Firsts (a repackaging of the first in her Jessica Darling series, from Megan McCafferty of The Mall, which I adored!), Cool for the Summer. These are the types of books I reveled in back when I was in high school. (Who am I kidding? These are the books I love still!)
Also, Celadon Books was kind enough to send me an advance copy of The Maidens, from Alex Michaelides, who wrote the amazing The Silent Patient. I can’t wait to get started!
