just finished: I finished Leslie Jordan’s How Y’All Doing?, which comes out Tuesday, and I can’t wait to talk about it. He is so cute and has such a big personality that his warmth and laughter and love comes through on every page. I also just read He Started It, by the same brilliantly twisted mind who brought us My Lovely Wife. Samantha Downing’s story of a road trip gone wild for 3 adult siblings is funny and curious and deeply disturbing and full of secrets, and having read this book, I will never be the same. This one just came out recently in paperback in anticipation of her new one, For Your Own Good, coming out in late July.
currently reading: Slingshot, a ya book about a girl who is struggling to find her place at her boarding school. Author Mercedes Helnwein has infused Grace with intelligence, strength, and a devil-may-care attitude that I absolutely adore. I’m not too far in yet, but I am loving it! I’ve also been reading A Girl Named Anna, about a teenaged girl who lives a quiet life with a deeply religious, controlling mother. But when she sneaks away to Astroland, a local amusement park, for her 18th birthday, she realizes that she’s been there before. From there, she starts to wonder who she really is and if maybe her entire life has been a lie. I’m about halfway through, and it’s absolutely lovely.
up next: Also out this week is Chaos on Catnet. It’s the follow-up to last year’s Catfishing on CatNet, which I adored. I can’t wait to get caught up on the action in Steph’s life. Also, this week I got an early copy of the next Anthony Horowitz, A Line to Kill. Hawthorne is back, and he’s on the case. This doesn’t hit shelves until October, but I will not be able to wait that long to jump in. And as if all that isn’t enough, the bookmail has been jumping here lately! Some of these were expected—I won some Goodreads giveaways and scored Not Your Average Hot Guy from St. Martin’s Griffin, Imposter Syndrome from Custom House, and London’s Number One Dog-Walking Agency from William Morrow. And then Kensington surprised me with Outrageous, and Celadon made me very happy by sharing Love People Use Things. I am really looking forward to that one, so it was truly a lovely surprise. Thanks to all, and let’s get to reading!
