just finished: The Night Swim, the latest thriller by Megan Goldin, who wrote last year’s Escape Room, which I loved. This one is about a podcaster covering a rape trial for her third season who gets pulled into a murder investigation in her spare time.
currently reading: I’m listening to The Switch, Beth O’Leary’s follow-up to last year’s The Flatshare. In The Switch, a young overachieving woman has a panic attack at work during a big presentation. Her company doesn’t fire her, but they do give her a mandatory 2 months off. A visit to her grandmother’s house, in a charming small town away from London, gives her the idea of switching with her for those 2 months she has off. She’ll take over all her grandmother’s commitments there, and her grandmother can go to London for an adventure, a vacation, and maybe a little online dating. I’m about a fourth of the way through right now, and it’s utterly charming. I am loving this experience! I’ve also started reading Little Disasters, from Sarah Vaughan, who also wrote Anatomy of a Scandal. This one is about a pediatric doctor who was called to the ER to consult on an infant with a skull fracture. The mother turns out to be a friend of hers, and now the doctor has to file a report of potential abuse against a mother who she knows to be caring and kind. What could have happened in that house to cause such an injury, and could it happen again? This one is a tough topic, but the writing is gorgeous, so I’m just going to keep moving forward with it and hope for a happy ending.
up next: More thrillers and rom coms, and I’m so excited to say lots more cookbooks. There are some great cookbooks coming out this fall, and I am hoping to get my hands on some of them. New Alex Guarnaschelli, Ina Garten, Martha Stewart, Ottolenghi, plus so many more baking books and cocktail books! This will be an excellent year for new cookbooks!
