just finished: Last week, I listened to the audio book of Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier. Wow! Not an easy book to read, but it was beautifully written. And yesterday, as I spent most of the day reading, I got to finish The Girl from Widow Hills. A truly wonderful thriller with an ending I did not see coming! Loved it! More about both of those later this week. Although I do want to say that Jennifer Hillier’s audio book had at the end an excerpt from her next book, Little Secrets. I couldn’t stop listening, as I’m one of those Audible listeners who can’t really be finished with an audio book without the “Audible hopes you have enjoyed this program,” so I had to listen to it. Now I’m sucked in. And I have a credit to spend. I think you can guess where this is heading.
currently reading: I am about halfway through Everyone Knows How Much I Love You by Kyle McCarthy. It’s about the friendship between two women, in high school and again in their early 30s, about their differences and their strengths, and about how easily an unbalanced friendship can turn into envy. I was skeptical at first, as it’s beautiful but literary, something I’ve been trying to avoid this year (my year of reading fluffy), but I started reading it and got sucked right in. It’s truly lovely. I also just started Head Over Heels, a romance set in the world of competitive gymnastics. Just a couple of chapters in so far, but this is a fun book I can’t wait to get back to!
up next: I’m not sure. There are lots of good books coming out this week and next, but I will say that a few weeks back I won a Goodreads giveaway for chef, restaurateur, and Momofuku cookbook author David Chang’s upcoming memoir, and it finally arrived in the mail. I’m not reading it next, but I am definitely reading it later this summer. So excited! Eat those peaches!
