Rom-com superfan Camryn has been dating Marc forever. Now it’s their senior year, and she is ready for them to enjoy it. He’s the star of the soccer team, and she goes to cheer him on at all the games. They plan on going to Columbia next year, together, happy, ready to take on the world.
But then Cam gets called to the guidance counselor’s office and finds out that their dreams could be in jeopardy. She has the grades and the test scores for a good college, but she has no extracurriculars. Cam is informed that she needs to round out her high school experience in order to get into a college like Columbia, and she has to get in to Columbia. It’s been hers and Marc’s dream, like, forever. She can’t be the one to kill their dream.
But apparently, Marc can.
When he breaks up with Cam, she is devastated. But her family and her friends insist she keep moving, that she keeps going to school, that she keeps her head up, that she starts exploring her options. As the weeks go on and Cam finds ways to up her extracurricular game, she also keeps an eye out for someone else, her meet-cute, her other half. She keeps looking for Mr. Better-Than-You. And as she takes the time to remember what’s important to her, when she lets herself rediscover all her own passions, that’s when she finds the love she’d been looking for.
Finding Mr. Better-Than-You is a delightful ya rom com with a deep heart. Watching Cam struggle with her relationships—not just with boys but with her family and her friends too—is a lovely reminder of what’s most important in life. As she takes chances and finds the parts of herself she had set aside for her relationship with her boyfriend, Cam opens up and finds so much more to life. Author Shani Petroff has created fun, realistic characters who live real lives in this wonderful novel. It’s a keeper!
