How is it August already!?!

recently finished: The Escape Manual for Introverts by Katie Vaz, which is exactly what it sounds like but with lots of colorful and charming illustrations. Her previous book is Make Yourself Cozy, also adorably illustrated and recommended; more about that here. And while I’m technically not finished yet, I am only about 45 minutes from finishing Ruth Ware’s The Turn of the Key, out Tuesday. It is amazing and chilling and thrilling, and I intend to finish it shortly after finishing this post.

currently reading: Shari Lapena’s Someone We Know, which came out last week and is fascinating. I’m not in too deep yet, and we’re bouncing between story lines, so I am so excited to find out how all the puzzle pieces fit together. I know it will be brilliant! I’m also reading Donna Andrews’ Terns of Endearment, another funny book set on a cruise (see The Floating Feldmans), but I’m pretty sure that someone is going to die in this one. I love these bird-themed murder mysteries, and I can’t wait to spend time with Meg and her crazy family while they are locked up together on the ship! I’m also still reading Permission to Feel, which is bringing up a lot more feels than I expected, which is slowing me down. But it’s good! It’s an important book about how to use our emotions to make us smarter, a topic I’ve been learning more about for the 10 or so years. It’s not out until September, but I highly recommend it. I’ll talk more about it when it’s available.

up next: The Swallows by Lisa Lutz. I keep hearing so many good things about this book!
