recently finished: I did get to read some stuff this week, since a super nasty cold laid me out. More about this one tomorrow, but Down and Out just came out last week, and it's fantastic. A high school about-to-be-senior runs away to Washington D.C. for a few weeks in the summer and has the adventure of a lifetime. Also just finished The Perfect Nanny. It's a super-chilling look at a family who picked the wrong nanny. Wow. Just wow.

currently reading: I've been thinking that I needed more middle grade fiction in my reading life, and I looked over everything I had in my list and realized I had one that comes out this Tuesday. It's Samantha Spinner and the Super-Secret Plans. I'm about halfway through it right now, and it's so fantastic. It's the type of middle grade book I wish I had written. It's so fun and exciting. It reminds me of The Mysterious Benedict Society in all the best ways. I would have blown through the whole book already except that my galley (early reader edition) is in a format that's not behaving quite as nice as I'd hoped. But I will keep struggling through, because I have to know what happens! I'm also mostly through with X Marks the Scot, an amazing cozy set in Maine. This one has (you can maybe guess from the title) a treasure map and a cast of fantastic characters. Sometimes with cozies my attention wanders in the middle, but it's not happening here. This one is keeping me holding on. Props to Kaitlyn Dunnett for that!

up next: I have two books that I was planning on reading last week, and they are what's up next. The fabulous Maggie O'Farrell's new I Am, I Am, I Am and Rhiannon Navin's Only Child. I can't wait!
