1. It’s the Beauty Brands liter sale, so I’ve stocked up on my favorite fancy shampoo and conditioner. That makes me very happy.
2. I’ve moved on to streaming a new show from the ‘90s. I did Newsradio, Mad About You, The Drew Carey Show, and now it’s Just Shoot Me. This is a really well written show, by the group who brought us Wings and (later) Modern Family. There is some fat-shaming and slut-shaming, but there is also a lot to love in this show about a Cosmo type women’s magazine and those who work there. It’s owned by Jack Gallo (George Segal), and the main cast revolve around his assistant Dennis Finch (David Spade), fashion editor Nina Van Horn (Wendie Mallick), photographer Elliot DiMauro (Enrique Colantoni), and features editor Maya Gallo (Laura San Giacomo). Maya was angry at her father Jack (and much of the world), so she tanked her job i news and had to go crawling back to her father for a job. He hired her to write for the magazine, which she resented, but then she comes around. It’s a very sweet show, one where the workplace becomes a family. I am loving it. It’s smart writing, it’s emotionally intelligent, and it’s funny.
3. Spain won the World Cup. I mean, I wasn’t rooting for them. I also wasn’t rooting against them. I just enjoyed the ride of this tournament (once my favorite teams were eliminated). It was an amazing time, seeing the fans and the players and all the media fanfare. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this year’s Cup, but it was so much fun! I don’t know what to do with myself now. (Just kidding. MLS is back, and there are a bunch of shows waiting in the DVR while we watched almost nothing but soccer for weeks.)
