1. What a crazy week! We actually left the house and did things. Thursday night we went to a concert. Brad loves the blues, so we went to see Kenny Wayne Shepherd on his 30th Anniversary Tour of Ledbetter Heights, his first album that he released when he was only 17. Brad had seen him on that original tour, where Shepherd played a bar where he was too young to drink. So seeing the anniversary tour was a full circle for him. It was the first time I’d gotten to see him live, and it was impressive. We had a great time, and if you’re a fan of his but can’t make it to see him live, you should know that they went back to the studio and rerecorded Ledbetter Heights, and it is available now.
2. Since we knew Thursday would be a late one, we both took Friday off. And since Sheep Detectives opened this weekend, we went to a Friday afternoon movie. There were only a handful of other people there, so that was really nice. I had been waiting on this movie since I first heard about it. It’s based on Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann, a novel about a flock of sheep who figure out who killed their shepherd. The movie has Emma Thompson in it, and knowing that is an automatic yes from me, but I listened to the next book in the series last year and loved it, so I wanted to see this. This movie is fantastic. It’s smart and funny and has a lot of heart. Brad liked it, and he wasn’t even drinking. Highly recommended, both book and movie.
3. I didn’t get a chance to hit up local bookstores for Independent Bookstore Day this year, but we had to go out Saturday to pick up some kitchen knives we were having sharpened, so we swung by a local bookstore to do some damage. Monstera’s Books, if you’re local to KC, is fantastic. They also have some plants, which were adorable. I just got books, but I thought they had a great selection and would definitely go back and do it all again. I love our independent bookstores!
