1. I found cake in the freezer. I mean, the point of freezer cake is to forget about it up there until you come across it at a time when you need cake and have no cake. It was a small cake, so I am once again without cake, but it was delicious while it lasted.

2. This is kind of a tough one. I went to a small religious high school that was attached to a church. The church’s pastor’s wife was the woman who ran the youth group at the church and was over the school. I found out on Friday that she had her certifications revoked by the church. Apparently, there have been complaints against her for many years, and the church finally listened. There is a podcast about some of her bad decisions, done by a former youth group leader I knew and my high school science teacher. I spent Friday afternoon listening to a few episodes, and I’ve been feeling a little off-kilter ever since. I knew there were issues with the youth group back then, and the years since I have thought about it all being somewhat cult-like. Apparently, there was a lot going on back then that I had no idea about. I am trying to wrap my head around it all. It seems strange that I would be talking about this as something that makes me happy, but it’s the talking that is making me happy. I remember back when I was in high school, there was a lot that wasn’t talked about. It was glossed over with religiosity, and we were expected to go on as if nothing bad had happened. I’m so happy that there is openness now and transparency, and that this woman who did so much damage through the years will be stopped from hurting anyone else.

3. There was a morning that I went to look for the cat before I went to work. He was upstairs at his window, watching the birds flying around by the roof. He had his paw flush on the glass, like he could just reach out and touch the birds. It was the cutest thing. I tried to take a picture without disturbing him, so it’s a little hard to see in this photo. But that right paw is on the glass as he reached out for his friend. His tasty, tasty looking friend.
