1. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks at work. I found out a week ago Monday that my coworker was planning on leaving the job. She ended up coming in Friday morning to finish a task and then left forever. My boss interviewed someone on Friday afternoon, and that person was able to start on Monday. So I spent the first three days of the week training before letting him try some of the work. He seems to like it okay, and he’s picking up on it quickly, so I am encouraged. We’re rolling in to our bus period, so we’ll see if he keeps showing up. Fingers crossed!

2. This has been a difficult year, but things are getting better. Or maybe, I’m getting better. I’m working on thinking less (really, overthinking less) and being in the moment more. Case in point: tonight’s casserole. I made one of our favorite casseroles for dinner, ham and potatoes in a cheesy sauce. The last few times I made it I wasn’t very happy with it. But today, I put the distractions away and focused on the casserole. And it turned out really well. It was well cooked (one time the potatoes were raw), and it was nice and cheesy and sauce (one time it was dry and blah), and it was maybe just about perfect. Which is not just about having a delicious dinner a few times this week. It’s also about me gaining more confidence in the kitchen and restoring some of my frustration with this year. Also, yay cheese!

3. This week is my birthday, and I am ready for all the cake! Bring it on!
