Milk & Mocha are bears loved by the internet. Created by Melani Sie about ten years ago, these adorable bears have found fans all over the world. And now, comics about some of the sweetest moments in a relationship are featured in this book, Our Little Moments.
It’s about the moments when you wake up together, or when one in the relationship is hurting and the other is there with support. Bringing a blanket to your partner, or a warm cup of tea, or just giving a kiss are all things that help develop the warmth that a relationship brings. Mocha is quiet and likes to stay home. Milk is excitable and loves to talk. The way they interact reminds readers of how to bring love and acceptance to those quiet moments, like laughing at a meme your partner shows you even though you’d seen it already.
Milk and Mocha navigate life together at home, with their pets and their screens and their different personalities. Mocha listens when Milk can’t stop talking, and Milk brings Mocha a blanket when he gets too wrapped up in his games to notice. They share snacks (usually), they help each other when they have trouble sleeping, and they hare snuggles. They enjoy movies together and take turns with household chores.
And when they take a trip to Bali, it’s their personality differences that make the trip more fun. Mocha does the planning and maps it out, while Milk discovers fun flavors for them and keeps the trip fun. Mocha takes lots of photos, and Milk enjoys being in the moment. And when Milk decides to go out when Mocha is sleeping, and Milk forgets their phone and gets lots, Mocha finds Milk with ease just by knowing where Milk said he’d wanted to go.
The Milk and Mocha comics are sweet and tender, infused with the sweetness of everyday life that comes from caring about others, paying attention, and taking care. The book can be read straight through, or you can open it randomly for some quick comfort and smiles.
I loved Our Little Moments. I saw myself and my partner in it many times, and it made me smile to think of the times he and I acted just like these bears. The stories are sweet and tender, filled with the warmth of daily moments and everyday love. The comics are colorful and whimsical, with the lovable Milk and Mocha and their pets, a green pet dinosaur and a yellow frog, and they warm my heart.
